An experimental rework of my older track, “The Obligations of Proximity.” I’ve been trying/toying around with this song for awhile, trying to get an edit that works with Judith Butler’s voice. I don’t totally hate this but it’s definitely still a work in progress.
In case you’re curious, the vocal sample is from Butler’s lecture “The Obligations of Proximity.” It’s a seven part lecture but it’s worth your time.

Here’s a preview of a new track for my 2013 EP. The track is a work in progress.
The song contains a sample of Marcel Khalife’s “Asfoor” from the At The Border Album. The sample is of the Oumeima El Khalil version of the song.
While I work toward a 2013 goal of releasing a mixed and mastered EP, here’s a sample of what’s in store for the next year. I’ll be releasing “The Stranger: Side B” in the next few weeks.
The track is available for purchase here
Hat tip to Maury Postal for working with me on the cover art + logo. More to come in 2013
This is my stripped down, minimal remix of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love.” I have nothing but love for this song and all of its over-the-top, borderline cheesiness. But I decided it might make for a more fun musical exercise to completely strip it down to something almost unrecognizable.
LeXo, a Paris based electronic band, and I have spent the better part of 8 weeks ‘remixing’ and re-situating Slavoj Zizek’s Occupy Wall Street speech as an electronic music track. We are currently working on a more in depth write-up of our process working across countries, continents, DAWs as two strangers who have never met but connected in the realms of musical taste and political ideology. Expect a more formal post about that in the next week or so. In the meantime, enjoy the Zizek remix. Spread the word and share feedback. This is our attempt to reimagine how something like the Zizek speech can experienced and shared.

P.S. I drew the cover art/portrait of Zizek in case you’re interested.

I spent the better part of this evening revisiting some of the electronic instrumentals I wrote several years ago. Similar to stumbling upon your high school journal full of bad poetry, listening to old songs is like opening up a sketchbook of sorts: sometimes I have moments where I think “Oh, I might actually have talent” and other times I think “What the fuck is going on here?”
And then I found this song, which started as a joke and never evolved into anything else. When I finished writing it, my first thought was “This could be in a GE commercial.” Six years have passed and I still think the same damn thing.

In Which I sample Zizek’s discussion of love from “Examined Life” in a minimal, dub inspired electronic instrumental.
I’ve been joking about dropping some Zizek in an instrumental. Something about a little minimal, dub/darkwave synth heavy instrumental seemed like an appropriate sonic take on Slavoj. Can’t say it’s finished but it’s amusing enough to share. I think this moves me into an entirely new echelon of pretension. Oh well, at least I’ve ACTUALLY read Zizek.
A Remix in Which I Sample Goddard’s “A Band of Outsiders”
This is my remix of “School Colors” by local band, A Band of Outsiders.
Their music, including the original, can be found here: http://abandofoutsiders.bandcamp.com/
The remix includes a sample from Goddard’s “A Band of Outsiders” at the end of the song. The scene where Odile recites “Les Poetes” on a bus is the scene sampled.
I sampled Goddard for a remix of a song by a band named after a Goddard film. Precious, I know. I don’t care if it’s terribly pretentious because I think it works.
On a side note, anyone have any tips for bouncing files from Logic into Wav files that aren’t so large they cause Soundcloud to crash during uploads? I’m looking for advice on resolution combinations that cut the file size down but don’t compromise too much on sound quality. This file is AIFF, which sounds better than a MP3 file but nowhere as great as a WAV file.
(Very) Rough Draft of New Instrumental Track, or the product of too much Burial and Palestinian Folk Music.

Autre - The Work of Art in the Age of Technological Reproduction
I cleaned up my sonic hat tip to Mr. Benjamin. The track, along with the rest of my aural sketches, can be downloaded for free on Bandcamp. If you do opt to download a song, Bandcamp will prompt you for an email address. I’m not going to spam you; I’ll most likely send out a thank you note. I am too lazy to send more emails than I need to.

For the four of you that will care:
In time for my birthday tomorrow, I’ve finished reworking and editing a small EP of my (older) electronic instrumentals. Creating an album and making it available for download has been a long-standing goal of mine. Checking that off of the list!
I tried to pick out the instrumentals that I thought made the most sense as an album, which means that this EP is a bit more minimal and moody than some of my recent work. It’s definitely a “headphones” album, which means that I think it’s better experienced with headphones than external speakers. I also view it as kind of sonic sketchbook, an archive if you will. I wanted it to be a bit imperfect and slightly off.
The album also includes a few tracks that were not previously available on my SoundCloud page. My goal was to take these tracks, some of which were among the first electronic songs I ever wrote, and give them a home and put them to rest. I doubt I’ll ever return to them, as I’d like to explore other kinds of sounds, including writing a dance album.
The album is available for download here.
Christina Dennaoui - Street Spirit [Cello Quartet Remix]
A few days ago I found this amazing cello quartet cover of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit.” I loved it so much I decided to give it a nice electro remix. This is the product of that attempt.

Fever Ray - Coconut [C.Dennaoui Remix]
After a little bourbon this evening, I decided to take my shot at remixing/reworking a Fever Ray song. I opted to remix Fever Ray’s “Coconut” and give it a little electro, dancey feel. Here is the end result. Not finished but finished for tonight. you can download the remix here.

Christina Dennaoui - Untitled: 3/11/2011
Recent audio sketch. Not finished with it yet. I’m thinking it might be interesting to sample a lecture or speech and layer that on top of the music. I think something more personal in nature and not about war or class politics (not to say that those are not personal issues). I don’t think a speech about either of those topics works with the above instrumental, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone point me to an an interesting clip of someone saying something intelligent about human interactions, especially in the context of trust and intimacy? Another topic?
