This mix extracts selections from bootlegs found throughout the Arab Emirates, showcasing a unique sound phenomenon of the Mkataa; The songs themselves span genres and time periods, from old Khaliji folk songs to the latest Bollywood hits.
I’ve been meaning to link to Joe’s radio shows for awhile now. Joe is a fantastic artist (and friend of mine) who moved from Detroit to Beirut recently. He’s been hosting a radio program dedicated to the sounds and music of the region. This particular episode is a collection of underground music from Dubai.
Here’s a preview of a new track for my 2013 EP. The track is a work in progress.
The song contains a sample of Marcel Khalife’s “Asfoor” from the At The Border Album. The sample is of the Oumeima El Khalil version of the song.

This is my stripped down, minimal remix of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love.” I have nothing but love for this song and all of its over-the-top, borderline cheesiness. But I decided it might make for a more fun musical exercise to completely strip it down to something almost unrecognizable.
Something like Burial meets James Blake with the R&B sensibilities of Disclosure (I think these brothers have the best name in electronic music)
This is one slick, well-produced track. There’s something kind of Old School Brian McKnight-y about this song.
H/T to Britticism for the lead.
In Which I sample Zizek’s discussion of love from “Examined Life” in a minimal, dub inspired electronic instrumental.
I’ve been joking about dropping some Zizek in an instrumental. Something about a little minimal, dub/darkwave synth heavy instrumental seemed like an appropriate sonic take on Slavoj. Can’t say it’s finished but it’s amusing enough to share. I think this moves me into an entirely new echelon of pretension. Oh well, at least I’ve ACTUALLY read Zizek.
Going forward, the first picture will serve as my main point of artistic, intellectual and musical inspiration. I may occasionally consult the photo below for guidance. If you have objections, please contact Annicka, my creative director.

I cleaned up my sonic hat tip to Mr. Benjamin. The track, along with the rest of my aural sketches, can be downloaded for free on Bandcamp. If you do opt to download a song, Bandcamp will prompt you for an email address. I’m not going to spam you; I’ll most likely send out a thank you note. I am too lazy to send more emails than I need to.
