In the Company of LeXo - The Problems of the Commons Are Here [Zizek at Zuccotti Park, 10/10/11]
LeXo, a Paris based electronic band, and I have spent the better part of 8 weeks ‘remixing’ and re-situating Slavoj Zizek’s Occupy Wall Street speech as an electronic music track. We are currently working on a more in depth write-up of our process working across countries, continents, DAWs as two strangers who have never met but connected in the realms of musical taste and political ideology. Expect a more formal post about that in the next week or so. In the meantime, enjoy the Zizek remix. Spread the word and share feedback. This is our attempt to reimagine how something like the Zizek speech can experienced and shared.

P.S. I drew the cover art/portrait of Zizek in case you’re interested.

Occupy Brunch This Sunday [in Chicago]
Dear Chicago based Tumblr friends,
A smart friend of mine from my graduate days at the University of Chicago is hosting an “Occupy Brunch” at The Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport this Sunday at 11am. The brunch-there will be mimosas!-will include strategizing, discussions, speakers, etc. So for the socialist-inclined amongst you, think about joining the group.
And for those of us who will be taking the CTA to get there, here are some tips:
Take the HALSTED BUS (8) south to 31st or 32nd Street. Walk 4 blocks West to Morgan.
ORANGE LINE to Halsted/Archer, catch the HALSTED BUS to 31st.
RED LINE to Sox/35th, take the 35th STREET BUS (35) West to Morgan. Walk north.
A taxi from the South Loop/Columbia College is around $10.00 (+tip).
Cheers,
Christina
“The slogan advances the opposition of the people to the elite that has exploited us and expropriated our labor and our future. No, exploiters are not welcome. But exploiters who want to participate in overthrowing capitalism, in ending the conditions that have given them an obscene percentage of the social surplus should be encouraged to do so. But only under the condition that they realize that the end of the game is eliminating the conditions that put them in the top one percent.”
Jodi Dean on Dave Winer and Occupy Wall Street. The slogan she is referring to above is the “We Are the 99%” slogan. Her quote is in response to Dave Winer’s post about OWS, including the following quote:
“The 99 percent message is brilliant, but it’s problematic. What if I were a member of the 1 percent (I might be). Would my participation be welcome?”
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Jodi Dean is brilliant. If you’re not reading her, you need to be, especially now.
